A couple finds their lives turned upside down when their daughter is assigned to a controversial big star.. Featured in The DA'S Office: Ep. 26 – THE ACOLYTE DISASTER! The first half of the film is more of a character study, about a deeply unhappy and lonely housewife, Annette, who soon learns that her husband, Ben, may be having an affair with a famous actress, Alicia. The second half of the film is more of a thriller, where we see the pace start to pick up and the wheels start turning in Annette’s head. The film is a true slow burn: cool and cold at first, then warm and bubbling, then explosive in its final act. It is gripping, absorbing and tense throughout. It is based on a fantastic performance by Daisy Ridley. She is a real revelation. Her quiet moments of smoldering anger are excruciating. There is a symbolic scene where we see her break a mirror after pushing herself into it for a few moments, which symbolizes their shaky marriage. Shazad Latif is also good here. The film has some mediocre aspects. The trailer is quite misleading. It can drag on and get a bit tedious at times. The ending may be cathartic and rewarding for some viewers, while mediocre for other viewers. Hiba Ahmed as Matilda, the daughter, is just fine, although the children’s performances in the film are often not very good. She felt more like a prop than a hero. And Matilda Lutz, while truly beautiful, charming and convincing as a movie star in the context of the film, was just okay. Perhaps because Lutz is Italian, many of her lines sounded strange or stilted. If you like thrillers with strong acting, especially ones involving female rage, eroticism and infidelity, this will be up your alley.
